Barcelona cable cars return to action |
People staying in Costa Brava villas planning to make a trip to Barcelona will be happy to hear that the city's Montjuic cable car system is operating again.
The cable cars that carry sightseers up the Montjuic mountain were out of action between February 4th and 22nd to allow maintenance work to take place.
Visitors can board one of the cars at three locations Parc de Montjuic, the Mirador and the Castle, although it is recommended to start at the first station as it is the lowest in altitude.
The 15-minute ride offers excellent views of the city, allowing passengers to take in famous landmarks such as the Placa Espanya, Placa Catalunya and the Sagrada Familia.
In total, the ride covers some 750 metres and taking a car saves an 84-metre climb between the Parc de Montjuic and Castle stations.
The cable car system first began operating in May 2006 following a renovation designed to turn the cars into a new tourist attraction.
The Costa Dorada and Costa Brava are coastal areas in Catalonia, the autonomous community of which Barcelona is the capital.
