Chilly UK weather sees holiday bookings soar |
Brits are flocking out of the country in a bid to escape the grim weather and enjoy a relaxing break in a holiday villa.
The bank holiday saw a flood of people jetting off abroad with few appearing to be letting the credit crunch affect their holiday plans.
Managing director of TravelRepublic.co.uk Paul Furner said: "When the weather was good over the first Bank Holiday weekend the public's thoughts were mostly concerned with barbecues and chilling out in the park or the garden".
"But the terrible weather over the second Bank Holiday weekend was a sharp reminder of how unpredictable the weather in the UK is."
He added that there had been a sharp increase in the number of people booking trips to traditional short-haul such as Spain - which was up by 34 per cent.
Sunny destinations such as the spectacular Costa Brava are expected to continue to prove popular as the summer rolls on.
Booking a villa in the Costa Brava can be beneficial to families who want private accommodation while abroad.
