Discover the arts and crafts of Florence |
Anybody taking off-peak villa holidays in Tuscany this year will have the chance to explore some of the lesser-known sides of the city of Florence on a number of trips to Oltrarno.
This working class neighbourhood is full of narrow streets and winding alleys that are home to workshops used by expert craftspeople.
Oltrarno is seen as a representation of the artisan traditions of Florence, with workers keeping alive customary craftwork methods and passing them down to future generations.
The Florence tourist office organises itineraries of Oltrarno led by professional guides, which offer an intimate view of the studios and workshops of the area.
Tour participants will be given a choice of visiting three workshops or setting off on their own to explore their locale.
People on villa holidays in Tuscany will be able to take part in the tours throughout the year, except for the summer period between the last week in July and the second week in September.
