Florence museum explores naturalism in Tuscany |
Art lovers staying in Tuscany villas this year will be able to expand their knowledge of the Italian naturalist movement at a special exhibition in Florence.
A show exploring the connection between Italian painter Giovanni Fattori and naturalism will be held at Villa Bardini in Florence until June 23rd.
This is the first exhibition dedicated to Fattori since his death 100 years ago.
Thirty-five works, most of which are large in size, comprise the display, which highlights affinities, comparisons and differences between Fattori and younger Tuscan painters upon whom he had a strong influence, such as Ferroni, Micheli and the Gioli brothers.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to explore five different sections covering areas including painting in the fields, urban views and 'courtly' naturalism.
These sections are designed to portray the character of Tuscany by looking at small but important things such as anonymous labour, busy streets and squares, rustic idylls and everyday life.
