Holidaymakers 'could save thousands by booking early' |
Brits planning villa holidays in Mallorca and other summer trips for 2009 could save themselves thousands of pounds by making an early booking, according to a recently published study.
Which? Holiday looked at three July 2008 holiday packages to Mallorca over the course of a year and found that the cheapest deals were available in August and September 2007.
Two of the packages had been taken off the market by May 2008 and all three were no longer available in June, suggesting that holidaymakers could be taking a risk by leaving their plans to the last minute.
The consumer magazine warned that this point could be even more relevant next year as many tour operators plan to cut capacity in 2009.
Which? Holiday editor Lorna Cowan said: "Our research shows that booking at the right time can save you a small fortune, but confusingly the 'right time' isn't the same for every type of holiday.
"If you can be flexible with your destination and dates, it may be worth waiting to see what deals come up. But, for families wanting to get away next summer with specific destinations in mind, we recommend booking in the next month or so to avoid disappointment when it comes to availability and cost."
Travel Weekly recently commissioned research that found that around five million Brits are planning to make their 2009 holiday bookings before December.
