More visitors to Costa Blanca this year |
Holiday villas on the Costa Blanca continued to a prove a popular option in the first five months of the year as the region welcomed more foreign visitors, according to recent figures.
Tourist numbers throughout Spain increased by 3.5 per cent in the period from May to January, according to the country's ministry for the economy, and the Costa Blanca was one of the most popular locations for visitors.
The area was particularly attractive for British travellers, with 1.2 million Brits travelling to the Costa Blanca, accounting for a fifth of the total market, Typically Spanish reports.
Spain saw a total of 10.9 million foreign tourists in the first five months of the year, a number that is set to increase over the coming months as the summer season gets underway, leading to an increase in the popularity of villa holidays and other trips.
The Costa Blanca is a stretch of coastline that extends from the towns of Denia and Javea in the north to Guardamar and Torrevieja in the south.
It encompasses locations such as Alicante, arguably the most famous town on the Costa Blanca, and Elche, which is known as the palm tree capital of the world.
