New museum to open in Florence |
Holidaymakers enjoying stays in Tuscany villas will soon be able to visit a new museum in Montelupo Fiorentino.
The new Museum of Ceramics will open in the town tomorrow (May 24th) and will comprise three floors of exhibition space.
Each section of the Museo della Ceramica will be dedicated to the ceramics of Montelupo Fiorentino.
The exhibits are housed in a building that dates back to the 1930s and are organised according to modern criteria, helping to organise them with regards to their historical significance.
A 13th century majolica is the oldest item in the collection, followed by pieces of 14th and 15th century ceramic art.
In total, some 5,500 works are displayed at the museum, 400 of which have never been exhibited before.
Holidaymakers staying in Tuscany villas will find the museum on Piazza Vittorio Veneto in Montelupo Fiorentino, which is about 20km south-west of the Tuscan capital of Florence.
