Siena 'among Europe's top destinations' |
People planning holidays in Tuscany villas will be interested to hear that the city of Siena has been voted one of the most popular locations in Europe.
TripAdvisor, the world's largest online community of travellers, polled millions of people for its inaugural Travellers' Choice Destinations Awards.
Siena was named the fifth most popular destination in the European section of the survey, ahead of locations in Ireland, Belgium and Switzerland, among others.
Travellers on villa holidays in Italy can visit two other destinations that made the top ten of the poll – Amalfi in the province of Salerno and Vatican City in Rome.
Michelle Perry, TripAdvisor's vice-president of global communications, said: "Whether it's for their unique beauty, or abundance of attractions, the 2008 Travellers' Choice Destinations Awards honour the most beloved destinations from around the world.
"Determined by millions of travellers, the Travellers' Choice Destinations Awards are unique because they single out not just popular places but truly exceptional places that enthral travellers and keep them coming back."
